Dr Aylish Wood, Reader in film studies at the University of Kent, sent us this video in which she discusses the relationships between software, big data and social space. Aylish also reflects upon some of the ways in which software design could impact methodologies and practices in her research field.
Very interested in the points you make about digitalised archives and the current digitalisation of periodicals and magazines – I work on interwar women’s magazines, which are at last being digitalised, which is great because it makes this material so much more accessible, but we experience it in a way that is totally different from how readers would have engaged with it. We are even more removed from the material and the social reading experience! Looking forward to meeting you at protopublics!
